DAY 26--ACAPULCO, MEXICO (AGAIN)

Historical/Background
See blog posting on  March 4th.

What We Did Last Night:
At 6:00 pm they rang a bell up on the bridge over the PA system to signify the beginning of the "Shipwide Block Party".  This is only done on Regent's ships.  You bring your wine glasses out in the hallway to meet your neighbors.  The stewards/stewardesses serve wine and canapes while you meet and mingle.  In the meantime the Captain, General Manager, and Cruise Director race though all the hallways saying hi to everyone.  It really is a lot of fun.
After that we headed down to our usual "watering hole" to meet up with Jane & Melissa.  We had asked Jane to buy and bring a Dallas Cowboys T-shirt so we could give it to Kadek, the bartender and really good friend.  So we presented it to him this evening.

Kadek with Karolina, the head bartender.
Having drinks in the Meridian Lounge
Nancy seated us in Compass Rose so I had her take my seat for the photo.
The fried soft shell crabs I ordered special for our appetizer were delicious tonight.
Shubert from Goa, India, was our great wine steward.

What We Did Today
As we missed the Cabo port we arrived here at 8:00 am rather than scheduled time of noon and  will not be departing until 8:00pm.  No trip to Acapulco would be complete without seeing the La Quebrada Cliff Divers.  As I said on 4th, I saw them in 2017 on our world cruise but Jane and Melissa had not so I went with them.  We departed the ship at 9:00 am on for our 4 hour “Historical, Picturesque, and Cliff Divers” tour.  The tradition of cliff diving started in the 1930’s  when young men casually competed against each other to see who could dive from the highest point.  Today the divers are professionals and solicit money from those watching after their shows.  They dive from 140 feet into an inlet only 22 feet wide and 13 feet deep.  We watched the show from a vantage point at the landmark, Hotel El Mirador.
We also stopped at the old Los Flamingos Hotel for the view of the ocean and a drink.  This hotel is where many actors and actresses stayed in back in 40's through 60's.  It was where Johnny Weismuller (first Tarzan) hung out along with John Wayne and many others.  You will see all this on my photos.
Think I will let my captions on the photos describe more of the touring.  There was some excitement on our tour.  At the next to last stop at a beautiful church up overlooking Acapulco Bay, Jane tripped and fell.  It was a nasty fall and she was bleeding in several places including over one of her eyes as her sunglasses made a cut.  Plus her wrist started to swell.  So our tour van (our tour was in a van with 10 passengers) headed back to ship but our guide said we would be stopping at a hospital for Jane.  So Melissa & I stayed with Jane at the hospital with her.  The tour company sent a representative to translate and take care of us.  Marcos was super nice and even got us some drinks and snacks to eat from a market nearby as it was 2pm and we had not had any lunch.  The hospital was very small and a private one.  They called in a private doctor who spoke English to treat Jane.  They even had a plastic surgeon come to put the 5 stitches in over her eye.  She is pretty bruised and battered.  It was 4:15 before we got back to the ship and Rebecca was very concerned about where we were.  I had asked Marcos to call and have the ship tell her what was happening but that message did not get to the ship.
The pool grill closed at 4pm so I ordered a hot dog from room service.  That was 30 minutes ago.  So I ran down to The Cafe and made a turkey sandwich.  Going to be dinner time before long but needed something now.
I am going to wait until tomorrow to post today's photo link.  I have a lot of work to do on the album first and besides tomorrow is a day at sea again.
I will put this photo of Jane coming out of the hospital today.  She was lucky that no bones were broken.  They did xray her wrist however.  BTW, the tour company's insurance paid for all this.

Jane and Melissa have 7:00 reservations in the Pacific Rim (Asian) restaurant this evening.  Rebecca and I will go to Compass Rose as we are not big fans of Asian style food.
We will be going to see the production show tonight.  It is a song tribute to Peggy Lee called, "I Love Being Here With You".  We have not seen this show.
We sail tonight at 8:00 pm for our next port, Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala.  But tomorrow is a sea day for us.  I will have more time then to do a proper job on today's photos.  I have a couple videos of the cliff divers you might enjoy.
